Conditions Treated By Massage Therapy
At Upstate Spine & Sport, we understand that pain relief needs are unique to each individual, and massage therapy is an avenue worth exploring. Our professionals focus on non-surgical pain relief solutions, including acupuncture and chiropractic adjustment. These methods are highly effective in improving circulation and targeting specific areas.
Back Pain | Massage For Lower Back Pain
One of the most common complaints is for upper back pain and lower back pain. Back problems usually begin with awkward body movements or positions that tweak various muscles. Massage is one of the most effective treatments for low back pain, relieving tension and inflammation while encouraging healing through circulation.
Shoulder Pain | Massage For Shoulder Pain
Right or left shoulder pain may result from poor posture, misalignment, injury, lifting, or sharp movements, like throwing. Shoulder blade pain often manifests with misalignment in the spine, particularly in the cervical (neck) area. Massage therapy can easily relieve pain between shoulder blades, instantly improving flexibility and range of motion.
Neck Pain | Massage For Neck Pain
Various ailments cause acute (short-term) and chronic neck pain, but most symptoms result from poor spinal mechanics. Poor posture is equally detrimental, but massage therapy can provide neck pain relief immediately. It soothes sore muscles in the neck and back, healing the body by relieving the inflammation and stimulating tissues.
Sciatica Pain | Massage For Sciatica
Irritation in the sciatic nerve causes terrible sciatica pain, typically from a herniated or slipped disc in the lower back. Sciatica pain radiates throughout the entire body, especially the legs. Sciatica treatment varies, but circulation improves through massage therapy for extremely effective sciatica relief, reducing inflammation, numbness, tingling, and discomfort.

Sarah Kimmel, LMT, ART, CPT
Sarah is passionate about helping people perform at their best and enjoy a pain-free and active life. As a massage therapist, Active Release Technique specialist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist, Sarah’s unique approach empowers her clients to reach and exceed their goals.
Sarah is a Greenville native who started her career as a personal trainer and teaching group fitness classes before becoming a studio manager at a few local Greenville gyms. She saw a need in the fitness and movement industry for a more comprehensive pain and injury management approach.
Sarah decided to enroll in massage therapy school to earn a license that would allow her to comprehensively treat pain. However, her ultimate goal was to become a ‘hybrid’ clinician – combining principles of massage therapy, exercise rehabilitation, sports performance, strength and conditioning, and the latest soft tissue techniques. She has taken continuing education through Active Release Techniques, the gold standard in soft-tissue care for active people. Sarah also spent over 500 hours assisting Dr. David Jolson to better understand how to help her patients become an expert in their own problem, not just the passive recipient of treatment.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with her dog, Harley, hiking, rock climbing, and reading. She also is a competitive powerlifter and weightlifter and in 2018 she placed first at the WPC Powerlifting World Championship. She is thrilled to serve the Greenville community.
