Acupuncture

Upstate Spine & Sport offers individualized acupuncture and wellness treatments. Treatment begins after a thorough dialogue discussing your lifestyle, condition, and symptoms.

Considering all aspects of your life helps the practitioner see your health in the context of you as a whole person, not just your physical symptoms. Treatment begins on the first visit and many people see immediate improvement.

While acupuncture has been scientifically proven as effective in treating conditions ranging from pain to seasonal allergies to insomnia, the mechanisms by which it works are still subject to debate.

The simplest answer, from a modern Western medical perspective, is that tiny acupuncture needles (less than 1/10th the size of a sewing needle) inserted into the skin promote blood circulation to targeted areas. This, in turn, activates your body’s immune and nervous systems, reducing inflammation and releasing endorphins to alleviate pain.

Acupuncture is rooted in a history that spans more than 2,000 years and helps to correct imbalances in the body caused by external factors such as stress, toxins, and injury. Once restored to proper balance, the body can better heal itself.

Fran Jolson, L.AC

Fran Jolson is thrilled to back home in Greenville. She attended Riverside High School and is a graduate of Wake Forest University. In 2016, Fran graduated as valedictorian from National University in Chicago with a Masters of Science in acupuncture. Fran believes in educating and empowering her patients to take charge of their own health and wellness beyond the treatment rooms.

Her path to acupuncture and wellness has been a personal journey. Fran struggled with women’s health and digestive issues and tried different traditional medical providers – but nothing seemed to be working. Finally, Fran decided to take an alternative approach. She began acupuncture treatments, changed her diet and lifestyle, and finally saw results.

Fran has a passion for treating digestive issues and anxiety disorders and has accrued many continuing education hours in those fields. Fran’s practice also includes treatments for pain management, headaches and migraines, fertility issues, stress, men’s health, psycho-emotional disorders, addictions, and more. Fran uses traditional acupuncture, cupping, acupressure and moxibustion. Along with East Asian Medicine therapies, she also incorporates a variety of Western techniques into her patient care.

In her free time, you can find Fran chasing after her two boys, Miles and Max, spending time with her husband and her extended family. She also loves trying new fitness classes around town, watching movies, and reading. Fran is excited to be back home serving the Upstate community.
